Chandigarh Design School Founder Joins International Jury & Speaker Lineup at Serious Play Conference, USA

Serious Play Awards Jury - Indian Expert Vineet Raj Kapoor with other International Jury

USA, April 26, 2025 – Vineet Raj Kapoor, Founder of Chandigarh Design School and iXDA Local Leader, has been announced as a distinguished jury member for the upcoming Serious Play Awards, to be held from August 13–15, 2025, at Rochester, New York. The pre-evaluation of online games took place in April 2025, where a select panel of global jurors assessed the top entries from this year’s finalists.

Mr. Kapoor was invited as a Juror for both Board and Digital Game categories, representing India and the Asian Subcontinent, marking a significant milestone for Indian design education on a global stage.

Earlier, Kapoor had also contributed to the Serious Play Conference 2023 held at Toronto Metropolitan University from October 11–13, 2023. He delivered a standout presentation in the Military and Professionals Track on “Gamifying Skill Training”, showcasing his 12+ years of experimentation and success in game-based learning within the Indian skilling ecosystem.

“It was an incredible honor to serve as a juror and speaker at this globally respected event,” Kapoor shared. “Being the sole juror from the Asian Subcontinent and the only Indian speaker, it was a unique platform to interact with the brightest minds and explore global innovations in game-based education.”

The Serious Play Conference, founded in 2008 by Sue Bohle, a PR veteran with experience promoting legendary game studios like Atari and Activision, has grown into a global hub for professionals using games in learning. The 2023 edition featured over 100 speakers across seven tracks, including Military, K-12, Higher Education, Healthcare, Game Design, Research, and Technology.

Hosted by Sue Bohle and Jan Hanson, the conference offered rich discussions in both Board Game and Digital Game Design. Kapoor’s presence as a juror and speaker reinforces his growing reputation as India’s leading authority in Gamification and Industrial Design Technology, and highlights Chandigarh Design School’s commitment to global collaboration and innovation in education.

I would like to share an actionable plan that you can use with Gamifying Skill Training. And if possible play a game to think our way out of a problem. remember, that the core of gamification is involuntariness and my actionable plan is about building choices into any process including delivering of knowledge/ learning.

If possible, I would like to share a case study as a take away. However let me see how it shapes up.

Additionally, I shall be Jury for Serious Play Awards for 2023.

Speaker at World Design Organisation (WDO) Event on 29 June 2022 at Moscow

WDO, is granted a special status with UNESCO. Under the Invitation these are the positive outcomes expected:
1. They (NCIDI) would organize the excursion to their design studio and production site.
2. Our students can participate in the contest on design modelling ‘Design Challenge’, where they would provide the place for work, Wi-Fi, the food and the mentor
3. A 30 minute session by the Expert, Vineet Raj Kapoor, on Design, at the International Industrial Design Day Celebration by WDO.

World Industrial Design Day

This annual day of observance is held every 29 June, WDO’s anniversary, for industrial designers, academics, design students and non-designers impacted by the power if industrial design on a daily basis. This day of observance promotes awareness and the celebration of industrial design, encouraging WDO Members and non-members to hold events such as exhibitions, panels, workshops, open houses and other social functions.

From 2009 to 2011, an annual student poster competition was held for WDO’s Educational student members to participate; this activity concluded once the official World Industrial Design Day logo was introduced by WDO. Each year, a theme is determined by the WDO Board of Directors and announced months in advance of 29 June in order for companies, associations, design schools and design agencies to plan their activities and outreach.

Is Gamification keeping up with Reality? (Corporate/ Non Profit)
Vineet Raj Kapoor

Date:  6:30 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. 25 June 2021 GMT+5:30

It is foolish to assume that there are ungamified systems that exist. The issue is more about the gamification losing track due to changed Reality. As a gamifier our task should be to get Reality back to track or Rather, tween the system according to the Reality (NeoReality) – actually both.

This is useful for afficianados of Gamification who would try to find answers / solutions through Gamification and are many times surprised by lack of workability of solutions. I would cover environment issues which impact solutions differently in different environments. For e.g. Social work is voluntary, employment is not (even though prima facie evidence points to volutarism element of the employment system). This is not a academic discussion – it has direct implications for practitioners from the fields of military, corporate, education.

If possible, I would like to share a case study as a take away. However let me see how it shapes up.
