Son, on your 18th Birthday I gift to you a world that we made a mess of. It is upto you to design the world of tomorrow. go ahead put a dot where you want this world to be. and then join hands with your friends across the world to take it there.

Each step we took, was to create a work free world. But, the joy of work got lost somewhere. – Vineet Raj Kapoor

Here’s the complete Transcript of my message:

Son Happy Birthday, on turning 18. You are now an adult and this world is all yours. I do not envy that you were born in these times of abundance. in fact I am apologetic about the times I brought upon you.

My generation wreaked havoc on the environment while we plundered the goods the earth had to offer.

I guess we were quite selfish.

We did not treat others well and today you would face an intolerant world where people do not wait for justice. they do not forgive. they rather deliver their own justice.

Do remember that those who wield the gun are not the only terrorists.

Each step we took, was to create a work free world. But, the joy of work got lost somewhere.

I also regret that we destroyed the joy of learning through institutions by making rigid paths to information. Now you would have to find a good path to own.

We destroyed the joy, we destroyed the pain too. Son you would not be pained enough to help others, nor joyed enough to go all out for the win.

We also misused our freedom to berate others and spread hate. Son, you’d be saddled with lack of freedom to talk about the idols we created and shoved upon you. We also brought in our entire world to watch you grow into a young man scarred and shaped by their expectations. I am sorry to let them dominate your childhood.

You should know we did all this to make the world a better place for you. But, I have learnt one thing – you cannot make the world a better place – God has already done that. You can only make yourself better.

So, i have only i thing to say, go ahead and set this world right. Put a dot at the place you want this world to be. Then join hands with your friends across the world and take it there.

Wish you a very Happy Birthday, son!
